SHOPPING: There are a number of good shopping locations in the area offering a variety of food, clothing and general merchandise. Knollcrest Shopping center is the closest (10 minutes) with a number of small specialty outlets and Bassett's IGA as the anchor store. A brand new Kroger Super Store at the corner of Sand Road and Route 163. And Harbor Lights Shopping complex on State Route 53 South.  Sandusky Mall offers the shopper major department and chain store choices such as Kaufmanns, Sears & Penney's.

ACCESS ROUTES: Route 2 gives access to Cleveland (1-1/2 hrs.) and Toledo (I hr.). The Ohio Turnpike can be reached using Rt. 250 or Rt. 53 from Rt. 2.

AIRPORTS: The Erie Ottawa Regional Airport serves both Erie and Ottawa Counties. Its 5000 and 4000 foot crossing runways make it popular with private aircraft, air freight carriers and all sizes of business jets.

In addition to serving as the region's gateway, Erie Ottawa also hosts the Tin Goose chapter of the Experimental Aircraft Association. Last years Fly-in held on the third Sunday in September hosted over 50 aircraft and 60 vintage automobiles and motorcycles. Over 1,000 visitors enjoyed a pancake breakfast, visits from a variety of certified and experimental aircraft and free flights to children through the F.A.A. Young Eagles Program.

The Erie Ottawa Airport is the largest airport between Detroit and Cleveland.

NEWSPAPERS: The Beacon, News Herald, Toledo Blade, Sandusky Register, Cleveland Plain Dealer, USA Today.

RELIGIOUS INSTITUTIONS: 25 Churches and religious institutions of various affiliations located in the Port Clinton and Marblehead area.

EDUCATION: Catawba Island students attend Port Clinton Public Schools and Immaculate, Conception School. Bowling Green State University Firelands College is located in Huron, Ohio. Terra Community College, Fremont, and Port Clinton, Ohio, offers associate degrees and numerous certification programs.

MEDICAL FACILITIES:
The area is served by a number of hospital facilities including Magruder Hospital in Port Clinton. Four hospitals, representing more than 750 beds are located within 15 miles of Ottawa County.

BOAT NEEDS: Fuel, repair, storage and supplies are abundant and conveniently located.

FERRY SERVICE: Ferry service to Put-in-Bay departs from Catawba Island and Port. Clinton. Service to Kelley's Island is located at Marblehead.

RECREATION

BOATING: Unquestionably, Catawba Island offers the finest variety of recreational boating on Lake Erie. With easy access to the excitement of South Bass, Middle Bass and Kelley's islands and mainland attractions including Cedar Point, you'll have less time at the helm and more time enjoying a broader range of activities. Jet ski and personal watercraft owners love the area for its protected bays and beaches, which make it perfect for a refreshing ride on hot summer days.

FISHING: Lake Erie's Western Basin is truly a fisherman's paradise. Seventy percent of all Walleye caught in Lake Erie are caught in Ottawa County waters. The reefs and islands teem with Smallmouth Bass and Perch. Shorelines and harbors provide for family fishing-fun all year long. Private Trout Clubs are located in and around Castalia, a short drive away.

GOLF: The area has two local golf courses, Catawba Willows, a 5,572 yd., 18-hole challenge located on Sand Road and a private course. Other fine public courses including Sawmill Creek and Thunderbird Hills are about a half hour away.

STATE PARKS: The historical Perry's Victory and Peace Memorial at Put-In-Bay greets thousands of visitors each year. The Marblehead Lighthouse State Park offers tours and events throughout the year and East Harbor State Park, with nature trails, camping and beach is perfect for your summer guests who love the outdoors.
